There was a time when flying was more than just a way of transportation to reach your destination. It was an adventure and only brave men and women dared to ride those birds while fighting against all outer circumstances. Those were real aviators flying their aircraft by pure muscle power, navigating with a map on the knee.
When the Douglas DC-3 was put into service it changed the game. The world once more became a little smaller and major aerial connections were developed, laying the foundation of modern airline networks. It was so popular and rugged that it not only was used by the military but is still in operational service for several airlines in remote places on the planet.
The one pictured above was built in 1943 as a C-47 Skytrain for the US Army and was converted to a civil DC-3 version after the war.
The days of such planes were truely "The Good Old Days"!
